About Miami Entrepreneurship Center

Miami Entrepreneurship Center (MEC261) is the epicenter of Miami’s entrepreneurship community.

Miami Entrepreneurship Center (MEC261) is the epicenter of Miami’s coworking and entrepreneurship community. Come see our events, be part of our mentor network and help entrepreneurs get started. We have strategic partnerships with many Miami coworking spaces so entrepreneurs can come to the center and benefit from education, connections and support services at no additional costs.

The center is located at the JANE building (261 NE 1st Street) in Downtown Miami. Affordable coworking and shared office space for startup companies.

This type of entrepreneurial centers are no longer just in California; they are popping up across the country, expanding the startup communities across the US (Chicago, Austin, New York, Denver, Las Vegas and now Miami).

The impact centers like this have been well documented. In June 2013 the mayor’s office in Chicago, released the economic impact numbers for the one year anniversary of 1871 (CEC). The numbers showed how one center, in less than one year, created 800+ jobs, helped 200+ companies with access to more than $30,000,000 in venture capital, and more importantly helped the city keep candidates and businesses from leaving Chicago to other tech markets like New York and San Francisco.

WE POWER SUCCESSFUL EVENTS

Our technology allows event organizers to successfully plan, manage, promote, and sell-out their events.

haku started in 2013, and in 2 short years we’ve built the leading technology in the event management industry. And in that same period of time thousands of participants have happily registered to hundreds of events, and millions of dollars have been securely transacted through our system.

Simplicity, ease of use, security, and reliability have been the base for the design of our user experience. Event Organizers and Participants have always taken center stage in this process.

haku’s customers have seen participation growth rates of up to 35% in their events, they’ve improved their cashflow, learned facts about their participant community they never imagined, and connected with them in ways that have helped improve the overall event experience. Our customers range from organizers running single events with 150 participants, to those directing multiple events per year with over 25K participant per event, and all of our tools are available, for FREE, to all of our customers!

No contracts, no commitments, no gimmicks! Our customers stay with us because we add value to their organizations.

Huge thanks to our early supporters, our community, and all of our customers. And we hope that you continue to be part of our story, as others join along in this amazing trip.

MEC Last Event ReCap

MEC was proud to host Miami’s first TechSpeak’s event, a 2-day bootcamp instructed by Nelly Yasupova (CTO of WebGirls), the event was amazing… here is just some of the attendee feedback.

Capture
  • I flew from Australia for this class and I have to say I would do it again! Nelly you’re awesome… worth every minute of the 23 hr flight.

James Sowry - Managing Director @ IBS infoTech
  • Intense and incredibly informative. This is a must for an entrepreneur who is serious about their vision and wants to know what it takes to bring their idea to life.

    Terry Yang - Entrepreneur
  • I considered myself a tech savvy investor/entrepreneur with a fairly strong tech background, and yet I learned so much!  Thanks Nelly, count me in for the next class!

Maurice Lopes - Investor / Entrepreneur
  • TechSpeak should be required learning for all aspiring tech entrepreneurs.

Josh Adams - Founder @ Juplix
  • The training was awesome and truly worth missing an important family function and 16 hours of my weekend. And MEC is clearly the best space for entrepreneurs available in the city.  We used to be at another accelerator space.  Of course we are going to be resident MEC co-working members.

Guide_to_Business_Planni

Business Plan for a Startup (PDF)  The business plan consists of a narrative and several financial worksheets. The narrative template is the body of the business plan. It contains more than 150 questions divided into several sections. Work through the sections in any order that you like, except for the Executive Summary, which should be done last. Skip any questions that do not apply to your type of business. When you are finished writing your first draft, you’ll have a collection of small essays on the various topics of the business plan. Then you’ll want to edit them into a smooth-flowing narrative.

Why a Business Plan Is Important

The real value of creating a business plan is not in having the finished product in hand; rather, the value lies in the process of researching and thinking about your business in a systematic way. The act of planning helps you to think things through thoroughly, study and research if you are not sure of the facts, and look at your ideas critically. It takes time now, but avoids costly, perhaps disastrous, mistakes later.

About this Business Plan Template

This business plan is a generic model suitable for all types of businesses. However, you should modify it to suit your particular circumstances. Before you begin, review the section titled Refining the Plan, found at the end. It suggests emphasizing certain areas depending upon your type of business (manufacturing, retail, service, etc.). It also has tips for fine-tuning your plan to make an effective presentation to investors or bankers. If this is why you’re creating your plan, pay particular attention to your writing style. You will be judged by the quality and appearance of your work as well as by your ideas.
It typically takes several weeks to complete a good plan. Most of that time is spent in research and re-thinking your ideas and assumptions. But then, that’s the value of the process. So make time to do the job properly. Those who do never regret the effort. And finally, be sure to keep detailed notes on your sources of information and on the assumptions underlying your financial data.

Business Model Canvas – Editable (PowerPoint) is a simple graphical template describing  nine essential components: Customer segments, value propositions, channels, customer relationships (such as self service or personal assistance), revenue streams, resources, activities, partnerships, and costs. The individual elements prompt consideration of a business’ full scope, while the layout encourages thought about how the pieces fit together. You can fill in the canvas on a whiteboard.

You might also try a digital version of the canvas at leanstack.com
